Norway, ME - CleanSpace & Drainage Matting Installation

Challenge

A damp crawlspace is an unhealthy crawlspace. It can lead to potential damage to supports, or mold growth that can affect the homeowner. This particular damp crawlspace belonged to Diane from Norway, ME… Until she contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

This crawlspace had no form of vapor barrier. The floor was dirt, and this was an easy entrance for rain water. In order to put an end to Diane’s moisture problem, we needed to seal off her crawlspace from outside moisture. To begin with this process, we laid a Drainage Matting around the inside perimeter of the crawlspace. This fits along the wall/floor joint, and will collect moisture coming through the soil. This water is then held back from reaching the center of the basement, and allowed to drain away back into the soil.

Next, we needed to complete the sealing process. We encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace Liner. The liner covers the floor, walls, and any supports within the space. Being made of a thin plastic, no moisture will be able to pass through to the interior of the space. Locking out moisture like this will dry the atmosphere within the space over time. A dry atmosphere is not a place where mold can survive, thus eliminating Diane’s mold problem and preventing any mold to grow in the future.

Now with a proper vapor barrier in place, Diane no longer needs to worry about her damp crawlspace. Her moisture problems are a thing of the past!
