Freeport, ME - CleanSpace & SmartSump Installation
Challenge
No homeowner wants to live with a musty smelling crawlspace, however, Les was. Needing this problem eradicated immediately, Les got in touch with us at TC Hafford Basement Systems to give his crawlspace the vapor barrier it desperately needed.
Solution
The primary cause of a smelly crawlspace is the moisture entering the space. In order to drain away any water gathering on the floor, our crew installed a SmartSump pump. With a PVC discharge line leading outside to carry the water away. This discharge had two important features. The first being the LawnScape, which is where the pipe comes to an end, and the water returns to the soil. The second important feature is the IceGuard pipe piece. This is a specially designed piece to allow water to exit the sides of the pipe in the event of a blockage.
Now we needed to eliminate the majority off the moisture trying to enter the crawlspace. To do this, we installed a vapor barrier composed of two parts. A Drainage Matting was laid to hold back water, giving it time to drain back through the way it came in. Then a CleanSpace Liner to completely encapsulate the space, sealing out moisture before it reaches the atmosphere within the crawlspace. These two barriers working together will prevent any further moisture from gathering.
Now Les no longer needs to live with that musty smell emanating from his crawlspace. Thanks to the CleanSpace Liner and the SmartSump sump pump!
