WaterGuard Piping Keeps Madison, ME Basement Water-Free
Challenge
A homeowner living in Madison, ME was living without any basement waterproofing. At first, this wasn’t a problem for them. However, once the space started to flood, they knew that something needed to be done to waterproof the space. After some searching online, the homeowner found TC Hafford Basement Systems and gave us a call right away to receive their free estimate. Soon after, they gave us the go-ahead to begin work on the space.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the concrete foundation right away. To keep water from reaching the surface of the basement floor in the future, a shallow trench was dug into the perimeter of the floor. Within this new trench, a WaterGuard piping system was laid. These pipes are then buried beneath a layer of loose rocks and concrete to conceal them within the floor without hindering their function. The WaterGuard piping will capture any moisture entering the basement through the foundation from now-on, through small openings along the bottom edge of the WaterGuard. This trapped water is then guided through the floor to the sump for removal from the home.
To allow for the water to be removed from the home effectively, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the basement floor, where the WaterGuard feeds into. The SuperSump will force any collected water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This pump can remove up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour, plenty of power to keep this basement from becoming overwhelmed by the leaking moisture. To keep this pump operational in any weather, an UltraSump backup battery was attached to the SuperSump to allow for the water-removal to continue in the event that the home loses power. The UltraSump holds enough of a charge to allow for 11,000 gallons to be removed from the home, keeping the home safe during exceptionally harsh storms.
Now that this homeowner has a proper waterproofing system in place, they will no longer need to worry about any moisture damaging their property. The WaterGuard & sump system will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
