WaterGuard Installation Protects Camden, ME Basement from Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner living in Camden, ME was in need of basement waterproofing. With water leaking in through their concrete foundation, the homeowner needed a way to stop this leakage. Unable to put an end to the flow of water on their own, the homeowner sought a solution online. They soon found TC Hafford Basement Systems and called us right away to set up their free estimate. Shortly after, they decided to have us get the work done for them and we got to work!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the floor by excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter of the concrete floor. Within the trench, we were able to bury a WaterGuard piping system beneath a fresh layer of concrete. This newly installed piping system now surrounds the basement, just beneath the surface of the floor. These pipes will capture any moisture leaking towards this basement interior in the future, preventing it from gathering across the floors surface. The water is guided through these pipes to the sump where it will be removed from the home.
Within the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. On a nearby wall, an UltraSump backup battery was installed and attached to the SuperSump. The SuperSump is capable of removing up to 2,650 gallons of water from the home every hour, which is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The UltraSump will enable the SuperSump to continue to operate even if the home loses power. This will keep the sump active for up to 11,000 gallons worth of water removal before requiring a charge. This will prevent any potential flooding during power-outages.
Before our crew was finished with this home, there were two final additions to be made to the discharge line outside the home. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just beyond where the line exits the home. This section of piping has special holes built in which will not affect the flow of water, unless a blockage occurs in the line. This way, if ice or other debris blocks the line, the water will be able to escape without backing up the sump and causing flooding. Finally, on the end of the line, a LawnScape discharge port was attached. The water will exit through this piece, draining away into the ground a safe distance from the home.
With their new waterproofing system in place, this homeowner no longer needs to worry about a flooding basement! The WaterGuard & SuperSump installation will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
