Bucksport, ME Basement Kept Dry with WaterGuard Installation
Challenge
A homeowner living in Bucksport, ME was looking for a solution to moisture problems in their basement. Water had been leaking in directly through the concrete foundation, causing flooding in the basement. Unable to keep the space dry on their own, the homeowner sought a solution online. They soon found TC Hafford Basement Systems and called us right away to receive their free estimate.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home to begin work, they started on the basement floor by excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter. This new trench allowed us to lay WaterGuard piping down within the floor, surrounding the basement. Covered with a fresh layer of concrete, the WaterGuard pipes will work beneath the floor to capture any incoming moisture before it is able to reach the surface. This collected water is then guided beneath the floors surface to the sump where it will be removed from the basement.
Within the sump, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device houses three pumps within itself, each serving a function to keep this basement dry under different circumstances. The primary and secondary pumps will remove the bulk of the water, with the secondary pump only activating if the primary fails to handle the water alone. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump to protect the home from flooding due to power outages. The water being removed by the TripleSafe is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line.
Outside the home, we made two final additions to the discharge line before we were finished. The first of these additions was an IceGuard pipe segment located just beyond the exterior of the home. This section of piping has angled holes built-in which allow only for trapped water to escape. Now if ice or other debris blocks the lower end of the line, the water will be able to escape outside without causing flooding within the basement. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was attached to the end of the line. The water exits the line here, far enough from the home to no longer cause trouble for the homeowner.
With there new waterproofing in place, this homeowner now has peace of mind. The WaterGuard piping will ensure this basement floor remains dry for many years into the future!
