WaterGuard Installation Keeps South Paris, ME Basement Dry
Challenge
A couple living in South Paris, ME were experiencing basement troubles lately. With water leaking in through their concrete foundation, their basement had become damp with residual moisture. Wanting this moisture dealt with as soon as possible, the homeowners sought a solution online. Once they came across TC Hafford Basement Systems, they knew they found the right company for the job. They called us to set up their free estimate and we got to work!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement floor right away. First, a shallow trench was excavated into the perimeter of the basement floor. This was then lined with WaterGuard piping, which are special pipes with slits along their lower edge. This allows for water to enter them as it rises up through the concrete. The WaterGuard piping was buried beneath a fresh layer of concrete to enable it to function beneath the floor. Now when rainwater leaks in through the concrete, it will become trapped within the WaterGuard piping and guided beneath the floor to the sump to be removed.
To handle the amount of water needing to be removed from beneath this home, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in this basement floor. This pump can remove up to 2,650 gallons of water from the home every hour. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. In order to remove residual moisture and maintain a dry atmosphere, a SaniDry CX dehumidifier was installed on the basement floor. This device, as well as the WaterGuard piping are directly connected to the SuperSump to pass any collected water on for removal. The SaniDry CX will pull in the surrounding, damp air and separate the moisture from it. The dried air is then circulated back into the basement.
Outside the home, we made two final additions to the discharge line before we were finished with this job. The first was an IceGuard pipe section attached just beyond where the line exits the home. This pipe segment has special holes built into its sides which enable trapped water to escapee without causing a backup in the sump. If ice or other debris blocks the discharge line in the future, the water can flow out through the sides of the IceGuard. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was attached to the end of the line where the water will be released onto the ground, a safe distance from the home.
With their new waterproofing in place, these homeowners will no longer has to suffer from a damp basement. The WaterGuard piping & SuperSump sump pump will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
