WaterGuard Piping Keeps Rumford, ME Basement Water-Free
Challenge
A homeowner living in Rumford, ME was having trouble keeping their basement free of water. Even with a concrete foundation, water would still leak in through the floor, causing puddles to form on the floor during rainfall. Without proper waterproofing in place, the homeowner had no way to keep their basement dry. Tired of living with the damp condition of their basement, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to finally have the space fully waterproofed.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement by excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter of the concrete floor. Within this new trench, WaterGuard piping was laid, surrounding the interior of the basement. These pipes have slits along the bottom edge which allows for moisture to enter. Fresh concrete was poured to conceal these pipes within the floor, where they will act to capture any moisture leaking in towards the basement interior. This collected water is guided through the piping to the newly installed sump.
Within the sump, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device houses three individual pumps, each serving to keep this basement floor dry by forcing the water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The primary and secondary pumps will handle the bulk of the water needing to be removed from the home, with the secondary pump only activating when the primary fails for any reason. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump. If the home loses power, this pump will activate to keep the basement dry in even the most inclement weather.
Outside the home, we made two additions to the discharge line before we were completed with this project. The first of these additions was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just beyond where the line leaves the home. This pipe section has special holes built-in which allow for trapped water to escape. Now if ice or debris blocks the lower end of the line the blocked water will be able to escape without backing up the sump and causing an overflow. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was attached to the end of the line where the water will exit onto the ground a safe distance from the home.
With these new products installed beneath their home, this homeowner now has a properly waterproofed basement. The WaterGuard & TripleSafe sump working together will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
