Winthrop, ME Basement Kept Safe from Flooding with WaterGuard Installation
Challenge
A homeowner living in Winthrop, ME was experiencing trouble keeping water from gathering across their basement floor. Even with a concrete foundation beneath the home, rain water would still leak in through the floor of the space. This was posing a threat of water damage to the property, which the homeowner wanted to avoid. After a quick search online, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to schedule their free estimate. Soon after, they gave us the go-ahead and we got to work!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement right away by excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter of the concrete floor. WaterGuard piping was then laid within this new trench, surrounding the basement floor. We then installed a SuperSump sump pump. This device can remove up to 2,650 gallons of water from the basement every hour. After being connected to the sump, the WaterGuard pipes are buried beneath a fresh layer of concrete. The water entering through the floor will now be trapped within the WaterGuard pipes and transported directly to the sump to be removed from the basement through a PVC discharge line.
Outside the home, we made two additions to the discharge line before our work was done. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment attached to the line just beyond where it exits the home. This piece has special holes built into it which allow only for trapped water to escape the line. Now if ice or other debris blocks the line, the water will be able to escape without backing up and overflowing the sump. Finally, the end of the line was fitted with a LawnScape discharge port where the water exits onto the ground. This distance from the home, the water will no longer pose a threat to the homeowner.
This homeowner no longer needs to worry about moisture damage taking root in their basement. With the WaterGuard & SuperSump working together, this basement will stay dry for many years to come!
