Challenge

A homeowner from Oakland, ME owned a basement with a concrete foundation surrounding it. Unfortunately, this foundation wasn’t enough to keep the basement free of moisture. During any heavy rainfall, water would leak in directly through the concrete, creating pools of water across the basement floor. Needing this problem taken care of right away, the homeowner sought a solution online. They found TC Hafford Basement Systems and called us immediately to set up their free estimate. Soon after, we dispatched a crew to get to work.

Solution

Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they got right to work on the basement floor. To keep water from entering in the future, a shallow trench was excavated into the perimeter, allowing for WaterGuard piping to be laid within. Surrounding the basement, these pipes are covered over with a fresh coat of concrete. Within the floor, the WaterGuard will take in the leaking moisture, preventing it from reaching the surface and guiding it to the sump for removal. We installed a SmartSump sump pump in this basement floor which the WaterGuard feeds into, allowing for the water to be pumped up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line before ever reaching the surface of the floor.

Following this discharge line outside, we made two final additions before we were finished with this job. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just where the discharge line exits the home. This piece has special holes built into the sides to allow for trapped water to escape. With this piece installed, if ice or debris blocks the line, the water won’t back up the sump, causing an overflow. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was attached to the end of the line. The water exits onto the lawn here, a safe distance from the home as to not cause any further problems for the homeowner.

With these improvements to their basement in place, this homeowner no longer has a wet basement to worry about! The WaterGuard & sump system will keep this basement floor dry for many years to come!
