WaterGuard System Protects Belfast, ME Basement from Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner who lived in Belfast, ME was having difficulties keeping their basement clear of water during rainfall. The sump they had in their basement floor was often overwhelmed and would flood the space. Looking to have this problem remedied, the homeowner sought a solution online. Once they found TC Hafford Basement Systems, they gave us a call right away and we got to work!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they moved straight to the basement to begin work on the waterproofing. To start, a shallow trench was excavated into the concrete basement floor, running along the outer edge against the wall. Within this trench, WaterGuard piping was laid down and covered over with a fresh coat of concrete. Once in place, the WaterGuard piping will capture moisture as it leaks in through the floor of the space, preventing any from reaching the surface of the floor in the future to cause more flooding. This water is then guided through the pipes to the sump where it will be removed from the home.
Within the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump is capable of removing up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour, which it forces up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. To keep the SuperSump operational under any conditions, an UltraSump backup battery was mounted on a nearby wall and attached to the SuperSump. In the event the home loses power, the UltraSump will provide the SuperSump with enough power to keep functioning for up to 11,000 gallons worth off water removal before requiring a charge. This will ensure the basement floor remains dry even in the harshest storms!
With their WaterGuard piping in place and sump system upgrade, this homeowner will no longer need to stress about rainwater flooding their basement. These new products will keep this basement floor dry for many years to come!
