Complete Waterproofing Protects Farmington, ME Basement from Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner living in Farmington, ME had been experiencing trouble with water gathering beneath their home. Even with a concrete foundation surrounding their basement, outside water would still leak in during rainfall or when the snow melted after winter. This had been a problem for the homeowner for some time and they decided it was time they finally did something about it. After they heard about TC Hafford Basement Systems, they gave us a call right away to receive their free estimate. A little time later and they were ready to move forward with having their basement waterproofed once and for all!
Solution
As soon as our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement right away by excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter of the basement floor. This was where they then laid down WaterGuard piping, which is buried beneath a fresh coat of concrete to seal it within the floor. The WaterGuard pipes have holes built into their bottom edges, which allow for water leaking through the concrete to enter them and become trapped. This trapped water is then guided through the WaterGuard piping to the sump where it will be removed from the home without even reaching the surface of the floor.
To take care of the water-removal, we then installed a SuperSump sump pump within the floor of the basement. With the WaterGuard feeding directly into the SuperSump, it is able to send all of the water entering the basement up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump is capable of removing up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour from the home. To keep this pump operating even in the harshest conditions, an UltraSump backup battery was attached to a nearby wall and connected to the sump. The UltraSump enables the SuperSump to remain operational for up to 11,000 gallons worth of water removal before requiring a charge.
Outside the home, we made two final additions to the discharge line before we were finished. The first of these additions was an IceGuard pipe section attached just beyond where the line exits the home. This pipe segment has special holes built into its sides which allow for trapped water to escape the discharge line. Now if ice or debris blocks the end of the line, the water will exit the line without backing up and overflowing the sump system. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was attached to the end of the line. The water leaves the line here and harmlessly drains away into the ground.
With their new waterproofing system installed, this homeowner can now live without the fear of water flooding into their basement. The WaterGuard & SuperSump combination will be more than enough to keep this basement water-free for years to come!
