WaterGuard Installation Protects Buxton, ME Basement from Water Damage
Challenge
A homeowner living in Buxton, ME had been having puddles of water form around their concrete basement floor. This was a problem because the water should have been getting removed through their sump pump. Not wanting to need to push the water over to the sump any time it rained, the homeowner sought a solution to this problem online. They soon found TC Hafford Basement Systems and gave us a call so we could get to work on solving their problem!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement by excavating a shallow trench in the perimeter of the basement. Within this newly dug trench, WaterGuard piping was laid. Once in position, the pipes are buried beneath loose rocks and fresh concrete to seal them within the floor without removing their functionality. These pipes will capture any moisture leaking in through the floor and guide it directly to the sump for removal without ever reaching the surface. Next, a SaniDry XP dehumidifier was installed on the basement floor, near the sump. This device will pull in the damp air in the space, separating the moisture from it and passing the water to the sump to be removed from the basement. The dried air is then circulated back into the basement to keep the process going.
Outside the home, following the PVC discharge line that the sump sends the water out of the home through, we made two additions to this line before we were finished. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe section attached just where the line leaves the home. This pipe section has special holes built into it which allow for any trapped water to escape without affecting normal water flow. Now if ice or debris blocks the line, it can escape without backing up and overflowing the sump. Finally, on the end of the line, we attached a LawnScape discharge port where the water will be discretely let out onto the lawn to drain away into the ground harmlessly.
Now that this homeowner has these installations in place, their basement will be safe from leakages causing puddles to form across their basement floor. The WaterGuard piping and SaniDry XP will keep this basement floor and air dry and healthy for years to come!
