Proper Waterproofing Keeps Bath, ME Basement & Crawlspace Water-Free
Challenge
A homeowner living in Bath, ME was having problems beneath their home. Moisture had been leaking in and forming puddles both in the basement and in the crawlspace under this home. With a concrete foundation surrounding the basement, the homeowner was unsure what more they could do to keep the space free of water. Once they heard about TC Hafford Basement Systems, they gave us a call to get their moisture problem taken care of for good!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work first on the basement. To keep water from leaking in through the concrete floor, a shallow trench was dug into the perimeter of the basement floor. Within this new trench, WaterGuard piping was laid down surrounding the floor. The WaterGuard was then buried beneath a layer of loose rocks and concrete to conceal it within the floor without hindering functionality. These pipes will now capture any moisture leaking through the concrete, trapping it before it can reach the surface. The water is guided through the WaterGuard to the sump in the basement where it is removed from the home.
Moving on to the crawlspace, a vapor barrier needed to be installed to keep any future leaks from entering the space. This started with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor of the space. This mat sits just above the surface of the floor where it will allow water beneath itself to flow and drain away into the floor without being able to enter the air above. Over the top of this, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the crawlspace. This covered all of the walls as well as the floor with a thins plastic sheet, locking out any moisture which would have tried to enter he space. These two pieces together form a vapor barrier which will prevent future leaks.
With their new waterproofing products in place, this homeowner should no longer experience moisture leakages causing problems beneath their home. The WaterGuard & Vapor Barrier will ensure this home remains dry for years to come!
