Lisbon, ME Home Receives Complete Waterproofing
Challenge
A homeowner living in Lisbon, ME was having troubles with water leaking into both their crawlspace and their basement. Even with a concrete foundation beneath the home, moisture would still find a way into the basement by leaking directly through the concrete floor. Unsure how to approach this problem on their own, the homeowner sought a solution online. Once they came across the TC Hafford Basement Systems website, they knew they found the right company for the job. They gave us a call right away and we were got to work right away setting up the homeowner with a free estimate. Once they decided to go ahead and get the work done, we dispatched a crew!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the crawlspace right away. To keep this space from suffering any moisture damage in the future, a Drainage Matting was first laid across the floor to keep any leaking water from entering the air of the space. The matting sits just off the surface of the floor to allow water beneath itself to flow to find the best location for draining away into the ground. Next, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the interior of the crawlspace. This covered all of the walls as well as the floor with a thin plastic sheet which will completely lock out any moisture trying to leak into the interior of the crawlspace.
Moving to the basement next, we needed to keep water from leaking in through the concrete. To do this, a shallow trench was dug into the perimeter of the basement floor, where WaterGuard piping was then laid. Burying the WaterGuard pipes beneath a fresh layer of concrete, they will act to capture any moisture traveling through the concrete before it reaches the surface. This trapped water is then guided through the WaterGuard to the sump where it will be removed from the home before it can cause any problems for the homeowner.
Within the sump of this basement, we installed a SuperSump sump pump with an attached UltraSump backup battery. The SuperSump will keep the basement water-free from now on, with an impressive water-removal rate of over 2,600 gallons per hour. The UltraSump will enable the SuperSump to continue to function for up to 11,000 gallons of water-removal before requiring a charge. This will keep the basement safe from storms strong enough to knock out the power in this home. The water exits the home following a PVC discharge line, where it is carried away from the home.
Outside the home, we made two final additions to the discharge line before we were finished. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe section attached just beyond where the line exits the home. This piece has special holes built into the sides which allow for trapped water to escape. This will protect the sump from an overflow due to any blockages in the line. Finally, on the end of the line we attached a LawnScape discharge port. Here, the water exits the line onto the ground far enough from the home to drain away harmlessly without causing any further problems for the homeowner.
With their new waterproofing products in place, this homeowner can now live without the need to fear any water damage taking root beneath their home. The WaterGuard piping and sump upgrade will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
