Waterproofing on Presque Isle, ME Basement Keeps
Challenge
A homeowner living in Presque Isle, ME owned a dirt basement which would regularly take on rainwater. Wanting to finish their basement, the homeowner needed it to be waterproofed first, as well as having a concrete floor poured. To get the job done properly, the homeowner contacted us at TC Hafford Basement Systems. We dispatched a crew and got to work!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they were able to begin working on the basement floor right away. After leveling the floor, a concrete slab was poured across the floor. Within this floor, WaterGuard piping was installed around the outer edge lining the walls. Once dried beneath the surface of the floor, the WaterGuard piping will capture any moisture still attempting to leak into this basement through the concrete. The water trapped within the WaterGuard is then guided through the floor to the sump where it will be removed from the basement.
Within the sump, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump to handle the water-removal. The TripleSafe houses three pumps within itself, each handling a role in keeping this basement dry. The first and second pumps will take on the bulk of the water, with all water being removed exiting the home through a PVC discharge line. The secondary pump will only activate if the primary pump can’t handle the entirety of the water for any reason. The third pump is a battery backup that will switch on when the home loses power. Now not even a power-outage will be enough to cause flooding in this basement.
Following the discharge line outside, we made two final additions before we were finished. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe section attached just after the line left the home. The IceGuard has special holes built in which allow for any trapped water to escape before backup up to the sump. This protects the basement from flooding due to ice or debris sealing off the line. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was attached to the end of the line, where the water will exit onto the lawn a safe distance from the home.
With their new floor and waterproofing systems in place, this homeowner can now finish their basement without fearing water damage! The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement floor dry for many years to come!
