Sump Upgrade Protects Brewer, ME Basement from Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner living in Brewer, ME was having some trouble with their basement. The sump they had on the floor of their basement was not keeping up with the leaking rainwater like it used to and was beginning to flood the basement during, particularly heavy storms. Wanting something done about this flooding, the homeowner searched online to find a solution to their problem. They found TC Hafford Basement Systems and gave us a call right away to set up their free estimate.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement immediately. To start, a SuperSump sump pump was installed in a hole of the old sump. The SuperSump can handle up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour, which it forces up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. We then attached an UltraSump backup battery to a nearby wall, connected to the SuperSump. The UltraSump will allow the SuperSump to continue to operate in the event that the home loses power. It can allow for up to 11,000 gallons of water to be removed before requiring a charge. This will keep any water gathering in this basement under control in any weather.
Outside the home, we made two additions to the discharge line carrying the water before we were finished. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just where the line exits the home. This piece of piping has special holes built in which allow for trapped water to escape. This protects the sump from any overflows due to ice or other debris blocking the line by allowing the water to exit through the IceGuard before backing up inside the home. Finally, the end of the line received a LawnScape discharge port where the water will exit onto the lawn a safe distance from the home. Here the water will drain away into the ground harmlessly.
With their new sump upgrade in place, this homeowners’ basement will no longer flood during any heavy rainfall. The SuperSump & UltraSump combination will keep this basement water-free for years to come!
