WaterGuard Installation Keeps Scarborough, ME Basement Dry
Challenge
A homeowner who lived in Scarborough, ME had been living with some damp conditions beneath their home for quite some time. Even with a concrete foundation in place, the basement would still take on moisture during intense rainfall. Tired of dealing with a wet basement, the homeowner searched for a solution online. Once they found TC Hafford Basement Systems, they knew they found the company right for them. They gave us a call and we got to work!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement right away. To protect against moisture leaking in through the foundation, a shallow trench was dug into the perimeter of the basement floor. Within this trench, WaterGuard piping was laid, surrounding the basement. After being covered with a fresh layer of concrete, the WaterGuard piping will act to absorb all moisture leaking in through the foundation. This water is then guided through the piping to the sump where it will be removed from the home before ever even reaching the basement floor surface.
Within the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump which the WaterGuard piping feeds directly into. The water is then forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line where it is deposited onto the ground a safe distance from the home. The SuperSump can handle up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. To keep the pump operational in any storm, we attached an UltraSump backup battery to the nearby wall. This battery will provide the SuperSump with 11,000 gallons worth of water-removal power before requiring a charge. Now the basement will remain dry even during a storm strong enough to knock out the power within the home.
With their new basement upgrades in place, this homeowner no longer has any moisture troubles plaguing their basement. This WaterGuard & sump combination will keep just about any storm at bay for many years into the future!
