WaterGuard System Keeps Center Lovell, ME Basement Water-Free
Challenge
A homeowner in Center Lovell, ME was living with a wet basement. Even with a concrete foundation in place, outside water was still leaking in. This was not a problem at first for the property owner, but once the moisture started to cause a musty smell inside the home, they thought it was time to put their foot down. After a quick search online, the homeowner found their solution. They gave us a call at TC Hafford Basement Systems and we got to work!
Solution
As soon as our installation crew arrived at the property, they were able to begin work right away on the basement floor. First, a shallow trench was dug into the floor, where WaterGuard piping was then laid. These pipes, buried under a fresh layer of concrete, will capture any leaking moisture before it can reach the surface of the floor. This water is guided through the piping to the SuperSump sump pump we installed in the basement floor as well. This device will force the water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can handle up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour; plenty of power to keep this basement completely free of water.
Outside the home, we made two final additions to the discharge line before we were done with the waterproofing. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just outside the home. This piece has special holes built into itself which protect the SuperSump from an overflow. If ice or other debris blocks the line, the water will be able to escape through the IceGuard. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was placed on the end of the line. The water exiting the home will leave the line here onto the ground where it will drain away into the earth harmlessly.
With their new waterproofing products in place, this homeowner will no longer suffer from a damp basement after rainy weather. The WaterGuard & SuperSump combination will keep this home safe from water damage for years to come!
