East Winthrop, ME Home Kept Dry with Complete Waterproofing
Challenge
A couple living in East Winthrop, ME were dealing with a problem with their home. After any rainfall, their basement and crawlspace would both be damp. The leaking water could easily lead to future damage within the home, so the homeowners searched online for a solution. They found TC Hafford Basement Systems and knew exactly who to call. We dispatched a crew and were on the job!
Solution
As soon as our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the crawlspace first. To start, a SmartSump sump pump was installed in the floor of the crawlspace. This device will take in any water on the surface of the floor and pump it out of the home. Next, we began the installation of a vapor barrier by laying a Drainage Matting across the floor of the space. This mat sits just off the floor so that water beneath it can still flow toward the sump for removal. This mat also prevents the moisture beneath itself from reaching the air of the space.
To finish the vapor barrier installation, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the crawlspace. This covered all of the walls as well as the floor in a thin plastic sheet. This layer will completely seal out any future leaks trying to enter the crawlspace interior. To handle the existing moisture in the air of the space, a SaniDry CX dehumidifier was installed in the crawlspace. This device will pull in the damp air, separating the moisture from it. The collected water is passed to the SmartSump for removal while the dried air is circulated back into the crawlspace.
Moving to the basement, a SuperSump sump pump was installed to remove the water gathering in this space. This pump can handle over 2,600 gallons of water every hour. Keeping the basement water-free no matter how much water floods in. To keep the SuperSump operational during even the most inclement weather, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This device will keep the SuperSump pumping even after the home loses power. This can continue the water flow for up to 11,000 gallons before requiring a charge.
With their new waterproofing systems in place, these homeowners will no longer be at risk for moisture damage to their home. The Vapor Barrier & Sump upgrades will keep this home dry for many years to come!
