Orland, ME Basement Kept Dry With WaterGuard Piping
Challenge
A couple living in Orland, ME were desperately in need of some basement waterproofing. Even with a concrete foundation surrounding their basement, rainwater would still manage to leak in through the floor and cause flooding in the space. Tired of living with these conditions in their basement, they searched online for a solution to their problem. After a quick search, they soon found TC Hafford Basement Systems and knew we were the company for the job! They gave us a call and we got to work!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived on the property, they began work on the basement floor right away by excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter of the floor. This was where they then laid WaterGuard piping, surrounding the basement floor. Once in place, the WaterGuard was covered over with a fresh coating of concrete to seal it within the floor. These pipes will capture any leaking moisture from now on, leading it to the sump for removal before it can leak onto the basement floor and cause more problems for the homeowners.
To handle the water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the sump of this basement floor. The WaterGuard piping feeds directly into this pump. The SuperSump can move over 2,600 gallons of water every hour, which it forces out of the home through a PVC discharge line. Because this pump would be susceptible to power outages, an UltraSump backup battery was attached to the SuperSump to keep it operational throughout even the harshest storms. The UltraSump battery will keep the sump operating for up to 11,000 gallons of water-removal before requiring a charge.
Finally, outside the home, we made two additions to the discharge line to help keep everything running smoothly. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just where the line exits the home. This pipe piece has special holes built into its sides which protect the sump from any debris in the line such as ice. Any blocked water in the line can escape through the holes before reaching the sump to cause an overflow. The end of the line was then fitted with a LawnScape discharge port. The water exits the line here, draining away into the ground harmlessly.
Now, these homeowners will no longer experience a wet basement during or after a rainstorm. The WaterGuard & SuperSump will ensure this basement stays dry for many years to come!
