WaterGuard System Protects Vassalboro, ME Basement Against Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner living in Vassalboro, ME owned a basement which would regularly take on water during rainfall. This would result in flooding, which the homeowner could no longer stand. After doing a little research online, the homeowner found their solution, TC Hafford Basement Systems. They gave us a call and we got to work!
Solution
When our installation crew arrived at the home, they needed to prevent water from leaking in through the concrete foundation of the basement. To do this, a shallow trench was dug into the perimeter of the basement floor. This was where we then laid WaterGuard piping, running around the perimeter. Buried beneath a fresh poured layer of concrete, the WaterGuard pipes will take in the water as it leaks through the concrete towards the interior of the basement. This collected water is then guided through the pipes to the sump where it will be removed from the basement.
Within the sump, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump to handle the water removal. This device houses three individual pumps within itself. The first of these pumps handle the bulk of the water needing to be removed. All of the water passing through the TripleSafe exits the home through a PVC discharge line. The secondary pump will activate if and when the primary pump can’t keep up with the current water levels. This ensures the TripleSafe is never overwhelmed. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This will activate in the event of the home losing power, to keep the basement dry in even the harshest storms.
Outside the home, we made two additions to the discharge line to ensure the best function. The first of these additions was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just where the line left the side of the home. This piece has special holes built into it which allow for trapped water to escape. Now if ice or debris somehow blocks the discharge line, the water will escape before reaching the sump and overflowing. Lastly, a LawnScape discharge port was attached to the end of the line. The water will exit the line here onto the lawn where it will drain away into the ground, never to bother the homeowner again.
With their new products installed, this homeowner no longer needs to struggle with keeping a basement dry whenever rain falls. The WaterGuard & TripleSafe combination will keep this basement dry for years to come!
