Waterproofing Systems in Prospect Harbor, ME Protects Home From Damage
Challenge
A couple living in Prospect Harbor, ME had a few problems beneath their home. The crawlspace and basement would take on water regularly after rainfall. Wanting to avoid water damage and seeking a way to prevent future leaks, the homeowners searched online for a solution. There they found TC Hafford Basement Systems and they gave us a call to get the job done!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work first on the crawlspace by installing a vapor barrier to hold back leaking moisture. This started with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor. This mat sits just off the surface of the floor where it will allow the water beneath itself to collect and flow to where it can easily drain back into the ground while also preventing the moisture from evaporating to enter the atmosphere of the space. Over the top of this, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the crawlspace. This liner completely seals off the surrounding dirt from the interior of the crawlspace, keeping out any possible leaks.
Within the basement, we began the waterproofing here by installing a TripleSafe sump pump in the floor. This sump contains three pumps to keep the basement water-free. The first and second pumps remove the majority of the water, with the second pump only activating to take over if the primary fails for any reason. The third pump is battery-operated and activates when the home loses power. Next, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to handle the existing moisture in the basement. This device will take in the surrounding, damp air; separating the moisture from it and passing the water to the TripleSafe for removal from the basement. The dried air is then circulated back into the basement to cause more damp air to be pulled back towards the SaniDry.
The water from the TripleSafe exits the home through a PVC discharge line. Outside the home, we made two additions to this line. The first was an IceGuard pipe sections attached just where the line left the home. This piece has special holes built into it which allow for any water blocked by ice or debris to escape without backing up to the sump causing an overflow. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was added to the end of the line. The water exits onto the lawn here, where it safely drains away into the earth, unable to reach the home again to cause any further problems.
With their new improvements in place, these homeowners no longer need to worry about any water damage beneath their home. The vapor barrier & sump system will ensure the underside of this home remains dry for many years to come!
