New Basement Floor Kept Dry in Sorrento, ME
Challenge
A homeowner living in Sorrento, ME was living with a damp dirt basement. This space never had proper waterproofing, but the homeowner wanted to begin to utilize the space. Needing to turn the space into a waterproof and usable space, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems. After we met with the homeowner our installation crew was sent to the home to get the job done.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home they began work on the basement right away. Because of the dirt surroundings, this installation began with a concrete slab being poured across the basement floor. This will give the space a proper floor while helping to keep back moisture. To fully waterproof this new floor, WaterGuard piping was installed just beneath the surface of the floor around the outer perimeter. These pipes will capture any moisture that tries to leak in through the new concrete slab in the future. This moisture is then guided through the pipes to the sump for removal.
To handle the water-removal, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump in the basement floor. The TripleSafe contains three pumps within itself. The first and second pumps handle the bulk of the water needing to be removed from the basement with the secondary pump only activating in the event that the first fails to keep up with the amount of water for any reason. The water exits the home through a PVC discharge line. The third pump is battery-operated and keeps the basement water-free in the event of a power outage. This new pump system will ensure any water gathering in this basement is removed before causing any problems.
Outside the home, we made two final additions to the line before we were finished. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just after the line leaves the home. This section of pipe has special holes built into itself which allow for trapped water to escape. This protects the basement from an overflow from the sump if ice or debris were to block the lower end of the discharge line. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was added to the end of the line. The water exits through this piece onto the ground a safe distance from the home. Here the water will drain into the ground harmlessly.
With their new waterproofing products in place, this homeowner can no utilize their basement for whatever they choose without needing to fear any water damage. The WaterGuard piping and TripleSafe sump pump will keep this basement dry and protected for years to come!
