Basement & Crawlspace of Bailey Island, ME Home Waterproofed Properly
Challenge
A homeowner living in Bailey Island, ME had been living with some problems beneath their home. Their crawlspace was always taking on water after any rainfall and their basement was also taking on some moisture. They needed both spaces kept dry, so they searched online for a solution. After finding TC Hafford Basement Systems, they gave us a call and we got started on the job!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they first began work on the crawlspace. To keep this space dry, a vapor barrier needed to be installed. First, a Drainage Matting was laid across the floor of the space. This matting sits just off the floor where it holds moisture beneath itself, preventing any from reaching the atmosphere. The water below the matting is allowed to flow and find the best location to drain away back through the floor. Next, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the crawlspace. This liner, composed of a thin plastic, locks out any moisture trying to slip through the walls or passed the Drainage Matting. This completes the vapor barrier, maintaining a dry crawlspace for this homeowner.
Moving to the basement, we needed to remove the moisture that had built up int the atmosphere of the space because there was no standing water on the floor. To eliminate the moisture in the air, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This device will pull in the surrounding air to separate the moisture from it. The collected water is passed to a Condensate Pump so that it can be removed from the basement through some piping. The dried air is then circulated back into the basement to continue the cycle until the basement is full of entirely dry air.
With their new products in place, this homeowner will no longer need to worry about moisture problems taking root beneath their home. The vapor barrier & SaniDry will ensure these spaces remain dry for years to come!
