Basement Waterproofing Keeps Newry, ME Home Dry
Challenge
A homeowner living in Newry, ME owned a property prone to having a wet basement. This was due to the concrete foundation of the basement not keeping the water in the surrounding soil from entering the space. To protect against future leaks, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement right away. This started with the perimeter of the concrete floor being excavated to form a shallow trench. Within this trench, WaterGuard piping was laid to surround the basement. These pipes were covered over with a fresh coat of concrete to conceal them within the floor. The WaterGuard will capture any moisture trying to leak in through the floor from now on. This trapped water will be transported through the floor to the sump where it will be removed from the basement.
Within the sump, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump to take care of the water-removal portion of the process. The TripleSafe contains three pumps within itself. The first pump handles the bulk of the water, allowing the secondary pump to kick in only when the primary fails to keep up with the water for any reason. If the home were to lose power, the third pump is a battery-operated pump to keep the basement dry when the primary and secondary pumps are without power. This device forces the water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line.
Outside the home, we made two final additions to the discharge line before we were finished. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe section added just where the line leaves the home. This section of pipe has special holes built into it which allow for trapped water to escape. This protects the TripleSafe from an overflow in the event that ice or debris blocks the line. The water is able to escape through the IceGuard before reaching the sump. Finally, the water exits through a LawnScape discharge port on the end of the line. The water drains away into the ground here harmlessly.
With their newly waterproofed basement, this homeowner will no longer suffer from a damp basement. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement floor water-free for many years to come!
