Weld, ME Home Waterproofed Properly With Vapor Barrier & Sump Upgrade
Challenge
A couple living in Weld, ME had been living with a problem beneath their home. Both the crawlspace and basement would take on water after any rainfall. This leakage could easily lead to mold growth or water damage to the home. Worried about these potential damages, the homeowner sought a solution online. After finding TC Hafford Basement Systems, they knew just who to call to get the job done. They gave us a call and we arranged a time to get them their free estimate!
Solution
After receiving their estimate, the homeowners chose to go ahead with the job and our installation crew was dispatched. Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the crawlspace first. This began with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor of the space. This mat holds moisture beneath itself, while sitting just enough off the surface of the floor to give the water space to flow and drain away into the ground where it came from. This was half the vapor barrier completed, to finish it, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the interior of the crawlspace. This liner seals all of the walls and floor, keeping out any moisture that may try and enter the interior of the crawlspace.
Now that the crawlspace was finished, we moved to the basement to help keep the water leaking into this space at bay. To do this, a SuperSump sump pump was installed in the floor of the basement. This device will take in the water entering the space, forcing it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can move over 2,600 gallons of water every hour. The SuperSump is still susceptible to power-outages. To combat this, an UltraSump backup battery was attached to the SuperSump. This will give the SuperSump an 11,000-gallon lifespan even after the home loses power. This will ensure this space remains dry even in the harshest weather.
Moving outside the home, we made two additions to the discharge line leading away from the home before we were finished. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment added just after the line left the home. This section of pipe has special holes built into it which allow for trapped water to escape the line. Now if any ice or debris blocks the discharge line, any water will have a way out of the pipe without needing to backup the pump and overflow into the basement. Next, a LawnScape discharge port was attached to the end of the line. The water exits here, a safe distance from the home. Here, the water will no longer be able to flow back to the home to cause further trouble.
With these products installed in their home, these homeowners will no longer need to worry about leakage and flooding. The Vapor Barrier and Sump installation will keep this home free of water for many years to come!
