Northeast Harbor, ME Basement Kept Dry Using WaterGuard Piping System
Challenge
A homeowner living in Northeast Harbor, ME was having trouble with their dirt basement. Whenever it would rain, water would be able to easily enter the space beneath their home. This made using the space impossible, for fear of water damage. Tired of not being able to utilize their basement for storage, the homeowner sought a way to protect the basement from outside moisture. To get the space waterproofed properly they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work by first giving the basement a proper floor. A concrete slab would greatly help with keeping the space safe from leaking water. Even though concrete is not a perfect barrier to keep water our, we used WaterGuard piping to keep out any potential leaks. This piping system was installed beneath the surface of the floor, around the perimeter of the concrete slab. Any moisture leaking in through the concrete will be trapped within the WaterGuard pipes before reaching the surface. The water will then be guided through the pipes to the sump where it will be removed from the home.
To handle the water-removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the new floor. This pump can move over 2,600 gallons of water every hour, keeping the basement water-free no matter how hard it rains. The water follows a PVC discharge line outside the home where it passes through two pipe segments we added to help protect the basement. The first outside addition is an IceGuard pipe section located right where the line leaves the home. This pipe piece has special holes built into it which allow for trapped water to escape. This keeps the sump safe from an overflow if ice or other debris blocks the line. The water then exits at the end of the line through a LawnScape discharge port. This far from the home the water will no longer be able to flow back and cause further problems.
With their new waterproofing in place, this homeowner can now use their basement however they please without needing to worry about water damage. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement floor clear of water for many years to come!
