WaterGuard Piping Keeps Walpole, ME Basement Water-Free
Challenge
A homeowner living in Walpole, ME had been living with both a flooding basement and crawlspace. Even with a concrete foundation, the basement still would take on water during rainfall. The sump was eventually clearing the water out of the basement, but it would still flow across the floor to the sump. To prevent any future water damage, the homeowner sought a solution to their moisture problems online. Once they found TC Hafford Basement Systems they gave us a call and we were on the job!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work first on waterproofing the concrete foundation surrounding the basement. This started with a shallow trench being excavated into the perimeter of the floor. Within this trench, we installed WaterGuard piping. Buried beneath a fresh coat of concrete, these pipes will capture the leaking moisture before it reaches the surface of the floor. This piping feeds directly into the sump within the basement floor. Now any moisture trying to flood this basement will be directed to the sump for removal before ever reaching the basement floor.
Moving to the crawlspace, the dirt surroundings needed a vapor barrier to keep any leaks from entering the space in the future. This installation began with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor of the space. This mat sits just off the surface of the floor, allowing moisture beneath it to flow and drain back through the floor without being able to enter the air of the space. This helps reduce any potential mold growth which would feed on airborne moisture. Next, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the interior of the crawlspace. This liner is composed of a thin plastic sheet which locks out any water attempting to find its way into the crawlspace through either the walls or floor. This now-complete vapor barrier will ensure this space remains water free.
With their new waterproofing products installed, this homeowner will no longer need to deal with moisture leaking into their home during rainfall! The WaterGuard piping and vapor barrier will keep this home water-free for years to come!
