Sump Upgrade Protects Orrs Island, ME Basement From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner living in Orrs Island, ME had a problem with their basement. Water would leak in after rainfall and gather on the basement floor. This was not a new problem for the homeowner, but now that they needed to use the space for storage, this issue needed to be resolved. To get the job done the right way, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on waterproofing the basement right away. To keep water from building up on the floors surface, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the floor. This device will take in the leaking water, forcing it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. This device is susceptible to power-outages, however. To protect it from loss of power, we attached an UltraSump backup battery to it. This will enable the SuperSump to continue operating for up to 11,000 gallons worth of water removal after the home loses power. This should keep the basement safe from nearly any storm.
Following the discharge line outside, we made two additions to the line to help with waterproofing the basement. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just where the line leaves the home. This section of pipe has special holes built into it. These holes allow any trapped water to escape the line. This protects the sump from an overflow if ice or other debris blocks the line. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was attached to the end of the line. This is where the water exits onto the ground, far enough from the home to no longer cause any problems for this homeowner.
Now that they have a proper sump system in place, this homeowner can utilize their basement without then need to worry about flooding from every storm. The SuperSump & UltraSump combination will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
