WaterGuard Piping Keeps Bernard, ME Basement Safe From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner living in Bernard, ME was having some trouble with their concrete foundation. Water was leaking in during any rainfall and causing moisture build up on the floor of the space. This was immediately a problem for the homeowner because it meant their property was in danger of water damage. To rid themselves of this worry and have their basement waterproofed, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, their first order of business was excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter of the concrete floor. Within this trench, WaterGuard piping was laid and covered over with a fresh coat of concrete. These pipes act beneath the floor to capture any leaking moisture before it reaches the surface. The trapped water is then guided through the floor to the sump for removal. This deals with the leakage without the water ever reaching the surface of the floor.
To handle the removal of this collected water, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump in the basement floor. This device houses three pumps, each serving a purpose to protect this basement from flooding. The first and secondary pumps both remove the bulk of the water entering the sump, with the secondary pump only activating when the primary is either malfunctioning or cannot keep up with the levels of water. Any water leaving through the sump exits the home through a PVC discharge line. The third and final pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This activates when the home loses power to ensure the basement floor remains dry.
Outside the home, we made two finishing touches to the discharge line to complete this job. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just where the line leaves the home. This protects the sump from an overflow if ice or debris blocks the line. The IceGuard has special holes built into its sides which allow for blocked water to escape without backup up through the line into the home. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was added to the end of the line. This is where the water exits onto the ground, far enough from the home to not cause any further problems for the homeowner.
This waterproofing will ease the mind of this homeowner, protecting their home and belonging from water damage. The WaterGuard piping will ensure this basement remans dry for many years to come!
