Eustis, ME Home Waterproofed to Protect From Future Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner living in Eustis, ME recently experienced some flooding in both the crawlspace and basement beneath their home. This caused the homeowner to worry about potential water damage due to the lingering moisture in the spaces. To have the moisture dealt with and the spaces waterproofed, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began by waterproofing the crawlspace. This started with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor. This mat sits just off the surface of the floor, this allows the water beneath it to flow to where it can drain into the ground while not being able to enter the air within the space. Next, a CleanSpace liner was used to line the space. This liner is composed of a thin plastic sheet that covers the walls and floor of the space. This completely seals out any and all moisture trying to enter the interior of this crawlspace. These two layers form a vapor barrier, which will keep this space safe from future flooding.
Moving to the basement, we began the waterproofing of this space by installing a SmartSump sump pump in the floor to handle water-removal. The SmartSump will take in any water attempting to flood the basement, forcing it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. With the moisture on the floor taken care of, we still needed to remove the moisture lingering in the air. To do this, a SaniDry CX dehumidifier was installed within the space. This dehumidifier will take in the surrounding air, separating the moisture from it. The collected moisture is passed to the sump for removal while the dried air is circulated back into the space to continue the process. Soon after installation, this basement will return to a dry, healthy atmosphere.
Outside the home, we made two additions to the PVC discharge line before we were finished with the home. The first of these additions was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just where the line exits the home. This pipe section has special holes built into itself which allow trapped water to escape. This protects the sump from an overflow if the line becomes blocked by ice or other debris. Finally, on the end of the line, we attached a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water exits onto the lawn, far enough from the home to drain away into the ground without the potential to flow back to the home.
With these new installations, this homeowner now has peace of mind whenever it begins to rain hard. Their vapor barrier and sump system will keep the spaces beneath their home dry for many years to come!
