WaterGuard Piping Protects Monson, ME Basement From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner who lived in Monson, ME had a dirt basement beneath their home. This dirt provided no resistance to any moisture from rainfall or melting snow and the basement would often be damp or flooded. Tired of living with this basement, the homeowner sought to have the it turned into usable space. They gave TC Hafford Basement Systems a call and we were on the job!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, the first step to waterproofing this space was to pour a concrete slab floor. Concrete is not waterproof on its own, so to keep water from entering the basement in the future WaterGuard piping was installed just beneath the surface of the floor perimeter. These pipes will capture any moisture trying to leak into the basement, guiding it through the floor to the sump for removal without causing any moisture problems for the homeowner.
To take care of the water-removal, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump in the basement floor. The water guided to this sump will be forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The TripleSafe, as the name suggests, contains three pumps within itself. The first and second pumps each handle the bulk of the water, with the secondary pump only activating if and when the primary pump fails to keep up with the volume of water for whatever reason. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This will ensure the basement floor remains dry even if the home were to lose power.
Following the discharge line outside, there were two final additions to this line that needed to be made before we were finished with this waterproofing. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just beyond where the line exits the home. This section of piping has special holes built in which allow for trapped water to escape. This protects the sump from an overflow in the event that ice or other debris blocks the line. Finally, on the end of the line, a LawnScape discharge port was attached. This is where the water exits onto the ground, far enough from the home to not cause further problems for the homeowner.
Now that they have a proper floor and waterproofing in place, this homeowner can now utilize their basement for storage or a livable space without the need to worry about water damage. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement safe from moisture leaks for many years into the future!
