Spruce Head, ME Basement Protected From Flooding With WaterGuard Piping
Challenge
A homeowner living in Spruce Head, ME had a problem with their basement. With a dirt foundation, outside moisture could easily leak into the space. This could cause problems for the homeowner, such as mold growth or water damage. Unsure how to stop this leakage on their own, the homeowner turned to the internet. After a quick search they found TC Hafford Basement Systems and gave us a call!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work in the basement right away by pouring a fresh slab of concrete to become a proper floor. While this slab was being poured, WaterGuard piping was installed within the slab, sealed beneath the surface of the perimeter. Once dried in place, this new piping system will capture any moisture attempting to leak into the basement in the future, guiding it to the sump for removal before it can reach the surface of the slab.
To handle the water removal, this basement was going to need a sump upgrade. To achieve this, a SmartSump sump pump was installed in the basement floor, connected to the WaterGuard. This device will pump the collected water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This pump, however, was susceptible to power-outages, which would lead to a flood. To combat this, an UltraSump backup battery was installed. This battery will give the SmartSump power during any outages, keeping the basement water-free for up to 11,000 gallons of water. This should ensure the basement stays dry no matter how hard it rains.
Finally, outside the home, we made two additions to the discharge line to complete the waterproofing. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just where the discharge line leaves the home. This section of pipe has special angled holes built into the sides. These allow for trapped water to escape. This will protect the sump from an overflow if ice or other debris blocks the line. Lastly, the end of the line received a LawnScape discharge port where the water exits onto the ground, to drain harmlessly away into the ground. This far from the home, the water will not be able to flow back to the property to cause additional problems.
With their newly waterproofed basement, this homeowner can now utilize the space however they please without the fear of water damage lingering in their mind. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement floor dry for many years into the future!
