ThermalDry Flooring Gives Bremen, ME Basement a Pleasant Finish
Challenge
A homeowner in Bremen, ME was looking to have some additional waterproofing installed in their home. They had both a crawlspace and a basement which they needed waterproofed. The basement, however, they wanted to be turned into a usable living space as well. To get this job done, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems and we were on the job.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they first began work on the crawlspace. To protect this space from moisture leaking in through the dirt surroundings, a vapor barrier was needed. This started with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor, sitting just off the surface. This mat will hold moisture beneath itself, while allowing the water room to flow and drain through the best location in the floor. To complete the vapor barrier, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the space. This covered the floor, as well as every wall with a thin sheet of plastic. This finished vapor barrier will keep moisture from reaching the interior of the crawlspace in the future.
To waterproof and start to finish this basement, we began by installing a SmartSump sump pump in the basement floor. This device will take in any moisture leaking into the basement in the future and force it out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This water is carried away from the home through this line before being deposited onto the ground. Finally, ThermalDry Flooring was installed across the basement floor. These are panels with plastic tops and foam bottoms which create an insulated barrier between the cold concrete floor and where the homeowner would walk. Water beneath these panels can flow through slight slits in the bottom of the foam to exit the basement through the sump.
With their new waterproofing and floor tiling in place, this homeowner can now utilize their basement as a living space without worrying about water damage. The spaces beneath this home should remain water-free for many years into the future!
