Basement in Brooklin, ME Kept Dry With WaterGuard Piping
Challenge
A homeowner living in Brooklin, ME recently got hit by a large storm. This storm caused severe flooding in the basement of the home. With a dirt basement, the water was easily able to leak in. This homeowner not only needed the basement protected from future flooding, they needed lingering moisture in the basement dealt with as to not cause further problems such as mold growth. To get all of this done, the homeowner looked no further than TC Hafford Basement Systems. They gave us a call and we dispatched our crew!
Solution
When our installation crew finally arrived at the home, they began first by pouring a fresh concrete slab to create a new floor for the basement. This floor is not waterproof, however, so a WaterGuard piping system was imbedded in the perimeter of the slab as it was poured. These pipes, beneath the surface of the floor, will now capture any moisture that would otherwise leak in through the concrete. This keeps the basement safe from future flooding. The water collected within the WaterGuard is guided through the pipes to the sump to be removed from the basement.
Within the sump, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump to handle the water removal. The TripleSafe, as the name suggests, contains three pumps within it. The first and second handle the bulk of the water needing to be pumped from the home; with the secondary only activating if the primary fails to keep up with the amount of water. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump for the event of a power outage. All of the water is pumped away from the home through a PVC discharge line. Feeding into the TripleSafe, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier in the basement. This device will pull in the surrounding air, separating any lingering moisture from it and passing that moisture to the sump for removal. The dried air is then circulated back into the basement, creating a dry, healthy atmosphere.
Outside the home, our crew made two additions to the discharge line to complete the waterproofing. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just where the line exits the home. This pipe segment has special holes built into itself which allow for trapped water within the line to escape. This adds a layer of protection to the TripleSafe, keeping it safe from any blockages that may clog the line and overflow the sump. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was added to the end of the line. Here, the water exits onto the ground, far enough from the home to drain away into the soil without causing any further problems for the homeowner.
Now that this homeowner has a proper basement floor and waterproofing system in place, they can utilize their basement for storage or anything they wish without the worry of water damage affecting their property. The WaterGuard piping will ensure this basement floor remains dry for many years to come!
