WaterGuard Piping Protects Ogunquit, ME Basement From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner from Ogunquit, ME had a problem beneath their home. Their basement, which had a concrete foundation around it and a sump installed, rainwater would still leak in and gather across the floor. Using the space for storage, the homeowner needed this taken care of before water damage affected the homeowners’ property. To have the problem resolved, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work first excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter of the basement floor. Within this new trench, WaterGuard piping was laid, surrounding the basement floor. These pipes were then buried beneath loose gravel and a fresh coat of concrete. Sealed within the floor, the WaterGuard piping will capture any water leaking in through the foundation in the future. This water, trapped before ever reaching the surface of the floor, is then guided through the piping to the sump where it is deposited to be removed from the home.
The water exits the home through a PVC discharge line. Our installation crew made two final additions to this line outside the home before they were finished with waterproofing this home. The first addition to the line was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just where the line leaves the home. This pipe piece has special holes built into it which allow for trapped water to escape the line. This protects the basement from an overflow if ice or other debris blocks the line by allowing the blocked water to escape. The end of the line then received a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits the piping here, draining away into the ground far enough from the home to not cause future problems.
With their new waterproofing in place, this homeowner can now utilize their basement however they want to without the need to worry about moisture damage. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement water-free for many years to come!
