Brooksville, ME Home Receives Full Waterproofing
Challenge
A homeowner living in Brooksville, ME had a problem with both their basement and their crawlspace. Without proper waterproofing in either space, they would take on water whenever rain would fall around the home. This water would leak into each space and gather across the floor. This could easily lead to water damage to the home. To prevent such a problem from occurring, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they first began work on the crawlspace. To keep this space water-free, a vapor barrier needed to be installed. This began with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor. This mat, sitting just off the surface of the floor, will keep moisture held beneath it while allowing the water to flow and drain away back through the floor. To complete the vapor barrier, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the crawlspace. This thin plastic sheet covered all of the walls as well as the floor, locking out future moisture leaks.
Next, moving onto the basement waterproofing, a sump was needed to keep the basement safe. To achieve this, a SuperSump sump pump was installed in the floor. Here, it would take in the water entering the basement, forcing the water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. This much power is sure to keep the basement safe from water damage. To keep the SuperSump operational in any weather, an UltraSump backup battery was attached. This battery will give the SuperSump 11,000 gallons worth of water removal before requiring a charge. The UltraSump protects the basement from flooding if the home were to lose power.
Finally, moving outside, we made two final additions to the discharge line. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment added just outside the home. This pipe piece has special holes built into it which allow for trapped water to escape. This protects the basement from an overflow in the sump if I or other debris blocks the line. The trapped water will exit through the IceGuard before backing up to the sump. On the end of the line, a LawnScape discharge point was attached. This is where the water exits onto the ground, draining harmlessly away into the earth.
With their new vapor barrier and sump systems in place, this homeowner will no longer have any need to worry about water damage. The SuperSump & UltraSump combination will ensure this basement remains dry for many years to come!
