WaterGuard Piping Keeps Stonington, ME Basement Safe From Outside Moisture
Challenge
A homeowner who lived in Stonington, ME was experiencing a problem with their basement. With a dirt floor, water was leaking into this homeowners’ basement after any rainfall. Unsure how to stop this leakage on their own, the homeowner searched online for a solution. In order to use the basement for storage, they needed it sealed so that no water damage would affect their property. To get the job done they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they began by giving the basement a proper floor. This started with a concrete slab being poured. During the pouring of the new floor, WaterGuard piping was installed just beneath the surface of the floor. Once dried, the WaterGuard pipes act to protect the basement from outside moisture from within the floor. Water can, over time, leak in through concrete. The WaterGuard piping will capture this water as it leaks through, before it can ever reach the surface. The water trapped within the WaterGuard is guided beneath the floor to the sump where it will be removed.
Moving to the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump to handle the water-removal. This device will take the water from the WaterGuard piping and force it out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour, plenty of power to keep the basement free of water. To help keep the SuperSump operational in the harshest storms, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. The UltraSump will give the SuperSump an extra 11,000 gallons worth of water-removal before requiring a charge. This way even when the home is without power, the basement still will not take on water.
Outside the home, our crew made two final additions to the discharge line to complete the waterproofing. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just where the discharge line exits the home. The IceGuard has angled holes built into it which only allow for trapped water to escape. Now if ice or any debris blocks the line, the water can escape through the IceGuard without overflowing the sump. Finally, a LawnScape discharge point was attached to the end of the line. Here, the water exits a safe distance from the home onto the ground where it can drain away harmlessly into the ground.
With their new waterproofing system in place, this homeowner can now utilize their basement however they please without worrying about moisture causing harm to their property. The WaterGuard piping along with the new sump system will keep this basement floor dry for many years to come!
