Full Basement Waterproofing Protects Troy, ME Basement
Challenge
A homeowner living in Troy, ME was in need of basement waterproofing. Even with a concrete foundation surrounding their basement, outside water would still leak in directly through the foundation. Unsure how to stop this leakage on their own, the homeowner sought a professional solution. To get the job done, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work right away on the waterproofing of this basement. To start, a shallow trench was dug into the perimeter of the concrete floor. WaterGuard piping was then laid down within this trench and covered over with loose rock and concrete to seal it within the floor without hindering functionality. Beneath the surface of the floor, the WaterGuard will take in the moisture leaking through the floor. This water is then guided to the sump for removal before ever reaching the surface.
To handle the removal of the water, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the basement floor. The SuperSump can move over 2,600 gallons of water every hour. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This sump is powerful enough to keep the basement water-free but is susceptible to power-outages. To protect from this, we installed an UltraSump backup battery to the SuperSump. This battery will enable the sump to remain operational for up to 11,000 gallons of water removal before requiring a charge. This should protect the home even in the harshest storms.
Moving outside, we made two finishing touches to the discharge line before we were done with the waterproofing. Right where the discharge line first leaves the home, we attached a pipe segment known as an IceGuard. This special piece of piping has holes built into it which only allow for trapped water to escape. This protects the sump from an overflow if ice or other debris blocks the line. Finally, we attached a LawnScape discharge point to the end of the line. This is where the water lets out onto the ground where it will harmlessly drain away into the ground.
With their basement now completely waterproofed, this homeowner no longer has any worries when it comes to potential water damage to their home. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement floor dry for many years to come!
