WaterGuard Systems Keeps Brooks, ME Basement Water-Free
Challenge
A homeowner from Brooks, ME was living with an issue in their basement. Even though they had a concrete foundation surrounding their basement, rainwater would still find its way onto the basement floor. Unable to prevent this leakage on their own, the homeowner searched online for a solution. Once they found TC Hafford Basement Systems they gave us a call and arranged to get their basement waterproofed.
Solution
As soon as our installation crew arrived at the home, they were able to begin work on waterproofing the basement by excavating a shallow trench in the perimeter of the concrete floor. With water leaking in through the concrete itself, a barrier needed to be placed on the floor itself to keep the water out. WaterGuard piping was laid in the trench, which was soon covered over with a fresh coat of concrete. Sealed below the surface, the WaterGuard captures any moisture traveling through the concrete. The trapped water is guided through the pipes to the sump to be removed from the basement.
Moving to the sump, our crew installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device houses three pumps within itself, each serving a purpose. The primary and secondary pumps handle the bulk of the water needing removal from the basement. The secondary pump only activating when the primary either can’t handle the entirety of the water or malfunctions for any reason. The third and final pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This will ensure the basement remains dry should the home lose power. The water leaving through the sump exits the home through a PVC discharge line.
Outside the home, we made two final additions to the discharge line before we were finished. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment added just where the line leaves the home. This special pipe piece has holes built into the sides, which only allow for trapped water to escape through. This keeps the sump safe from an overflow in the event of a discharge line blockage. Finally, the end of the line received a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water exits onto the ground, draining away into the earth a safe distance from the home.
With their new waterproofing installed, this homeowner will no longer suffer from leaks during rainy days. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement floor dry for many years to come!
