Basement in Wayne, ME Kept Dry Using WaterGuard Piping
Challenge
A homeowner in Wayne, ME was suffering from a wet basement. The space beneath this home had no waterproofing, on top of just being a dirt floor. This allowed any rainwater to easily leak in through the surrounding soil. Needing the space for storage, but fearing water damage, the homeowner needed to have their basement waterproofed. To get the job done, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems and arranged their free estimate.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home to begin work, they started by giving the space a proper concrete floor. This concrete will make it more difficult for water to enter through the floor, although leaks are still possible. To completely waterproof the new floor, WaterGuard piping was installed just beneath the surface of the concrete while it was being poured. These pipes will capture any moisture leaking in through the floor before it can reach the surface of the floor.
The water collected within the WaterGuard piping is guided through the floor to the sump where it will be removed from the home. Here, it enters the SuperSump sump pump we installed. This device then pumps the water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can move over 2,650 gallons of water every hour. This will keep the basement water-free, even in exceptionally heavy rainfall. With a generator in their home, the homeowner is able to keep the sump operational even when the home is without power, ensuring the basement stays dry.
Following the discharge line outside, we made two final additions to the line before we were finished. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment added just as the line exits the home. This piece of pipe has special holes built into it which allow for trapped water to escape the line. This prevents an overflow in the sump if ice or debris blocks the lower-line. On the end of the line, we attached a LawnScape discharge point where the water exits onto the ground a safe distance from the home. Here, the water will drain safely into the ground without being able cause any future problems for this homeowner.
Now that this homeowner has a proper basement floor with waterproofing in place, they can use their basement for storage without fearing water damage. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
