Sedgwick, ME Basement Receives Complete Waterproofing With WaterGuard
Challenge
A homeowner living in Sedgwick, ME owned a dirt basement which would regularly take on water during rainfall. This was a problem for the homeowner, because it rendered the space unusable. Needing the space for storage, the homeowner first needed to have the basement waterproofed. To get this done properly, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement by pouring a fresh slab of concrete to give the basement a proper floor. While pouring this slab, a WaterGuard piping system was installed just beneath the surface of the floor perimeter. These pipes will capture any moisture that may try and leak in through the concrete from the surrounding soil. This trapped water is then guided through the pipes to the sump where it will be removed from the home before causing further problems.
To handle the water-removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the floor of this basement. This device can move up to 2,650 gallons of water out of the home every hour. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. To help keep the SuperSump operational in the harshest storms, we installed an UltraSump backup battery to provide power. The UltraSump will allow the sump to continue pumping water even when the home is without power for up to 11,000 gallons of water. This will maintain a dry basement floor in any weather.
Outside the home, we made two final additions to the discharge line before we were finished. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe piece attached where the line exits the home. This pipe segment has angled holes built into the sides which allow for water trapped in the line to escape. This protects the sump from an overflow in the event of an ice blockage. On the end of the line, we attached a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water exits the line, a distance far enough away from the home to safely drain away into the ground without being able to drain back into the home and cause any further problems for the homeowner.
With their newly waterproofed basement, this homeowner can now utilize the space however they please without the fear of water damage. The WaterGuard will prevent any water from reaching the surface of this new concrete floor for many years into the future!
