Damp Basement & Crawlspace in Addison, ME Waterproofed Properly
Challenge
A homeowner living in Addison, ME had been dealing with damp conditions beneath their home for quite some time. Both their basement and crawlspace would take on water during rainfall, which was causing problems such as mold growth and a musty smell. Even with a concrete foundation beneath their basement, water was still managing to leak in. Unsure of how to stop these leakages on their own, the homeowner needed a solution. To have their home waterproofed, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems and we were on the job!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the property, they first began work on waterproofing the basement. To prevent future moisture from leaking in through the concrete, we excavated a trench in the perimeter of the floor. Within this trench, we then laid down WaterGuard piping, encircling the basement. Once in place, these pipes were covered over with a fresh coat of concrete to conceal them within the floor. The WaterGuard piping will now capture the moisture as it leaks through the concrete, preventing it from reaching the surface of the floor. The water is then guided through these pipes to the sump where it will exit the basement without causing any further problems.
Moving on to the crawlspace, our installation crew needed to install a vapor barrier in order to keep water out during future rainfall. This began with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor of the space. This mat keeps moisture on the floor from becoming airborne, while sitting just high enough off the floor to allow the water to collect and flow to where it is able to drain out of the home. Next, the crawlspace was encapsulated with a CleanSpace liner. This is a thin plastic sheet which completely covers the walls and floor of the space. This liner will lock out moisture, keeping the crawlspace dry from moisture leaking in from any angle.
With their new waterproofing in place, this homeowners’ water problems will soon fade away and become a thing of the past. With a vapor barrier & WaterGuard system in place, no outside moisture will plague this home again for many years to come!
