WaterGuard & Vapor Barrier Protect Kenduskeag, ME Basement From Water Damage
Challenge
A homeowner in Kenduskeag, ME had a problem beneath their home. Water had been leaking into their basement and crawlspace for quite some time. This leakage was beginning to cause problems for the homeowner, so something needed to be done about it. To remedy the moisture problems taking root, this homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems and our industry leading team was on the case!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home they first moved to the basement to begin the waterproofing there. To keep water from entering through the concrete foundation, we dug a shallow trench into the perimeter of the floor. This is where we then laid WaterGuard piping down surrounding the basement. Buried underneath a fresh coat of concrete, these pipes will capture any future moisture leaking into the home through the floor. This trapped water is guided then to the sump, where it enters a SuperSump sump pump we installed. This pump can handle over 2,600 gallons of water every hour, which is forced out of the home through a PVC discharge line.
Moving to the crawlspace beneath the home, we needed to install a vapor barrier to keep the water from entering this area. To do this, a Drainage Matting was first laid across the floor. This mat sits just off the surface of the floor to allow for moisture beneath it to find a proper place to drain away back into the floor. The mat keeps the water beneath itself not allowing any to enter the air of the space to cause further problems. We then encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace liner, completing the vapor barrier. This liner is composed of a thin plastic which completely locks moisture out of the crawlspace, preventing it from leaking in through the walls or the floor. This vapor barrier will now prevent any future moisture problems from taking root in this crawlspace.
With their new waterproofing in place, this homeowners’ moisture problem is now a thing of the past. The WaterGuard & Vapor Barrier will ensure this home remains dry for many years to come!
