WaterGuard Piping Seals Out Moisture From Bryant Pond, ME Basement
Challenge
In Bryant Pond, ME a homeowner was having trouble with their basement. After living with damp conditions from leaking moisture, the homeowner decided it was time to do something about it. To have the space dried and kept that way, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems to set up their free estimate and have their basement waterproofed.
Solution
As soon as the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home they went straight to the basement to begin work. In order to prevent future moisture from leaking in through the concrete foundation, a barrier needed to be put between the outside and the basement. To do this, a shallow trench was dug into the perimeter of the basement floor. Within this trench, WaterGuard piping was used to surround the basement floor. After being covered over with a fresh coat of concrete, the WaterGuard was sealed within the floor. Inside the concrete foundation, the WaterGuard will intercept any leaking moisture before it reaches the basement floor surface. This will prevent any future water problems in this basement.
The water captured within the WaterGuard flows through the piping to the sump where it will be removed from the home. To handle this water removal process, we installed a SuperSump sump pump within the sump. This pump is capable of moving over 2,600 gallons of water every hour, which is more than enough power to keep this basement water-free. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line where it will be carried away from the home.
Outside the home, we made two final additions to the discharge line. The first of these was an IceGuard pipe segment added just as the pipe leaves the home. The IceGuard section has special holes built into it to allow trapped water to escape the line. This protects the sump from an overflow if ice or other debris blocks the water from exiting normally. On the end of the line, we attached a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water exits the line, far enough from the home to not cause any future problems for this homeowner. Here, the water will drain away into the ground harmlessly.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner will no longer be living with damp conditions in their basement. The WaterGuard & SuperSump combination will ensure that!
