New Vapor Barrier Keeps Gouldsboro, ME Crawlspace Water-Free
Challenge
A homeowner in Gouldsboro was worried about water damage occurring beneath their home. Their crawlspace would regularly take on moisture after any rainfall, or during certain times of year. Looking to have the space professionally waterproofed, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, we moved right to the crawlspace to begin work. To prevent any moisture from reaching the pillars used for supports, we encased them inside Wrap Piers. These piers will lock out moisture, keeping the wooden supports safe from water damage that could rot the wood. Next, we began the installation of a proper vapor barrier by laying a Drainage Matting across the floor of the space. This mat sits just off the surface of the floor, allowing the water to continue to flow to where it can easily drain away without allowing this moisture into the atmosphere of the space.
To complete the vapor barrier and seal out almost all outside moisture we encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This is a thin sheet of plastic that covers all of the walls as well as the floor. This completes the vapor barrier, sealing the interior of this space off from the surrounding dirt. On top of the new vapor barrier we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This device will take in the damp air surrounding itself, separating the moisture from it. The separated moisture is removed from the crawlspace while the dried air is circulated back into the space.
With these additions to their home, this homeowner will no longer need to worry about any moisture problem taking root in their crawlspace. With the CleanSpace barrier in place, water damage will never again be a concern within this home.
