Perimeter Piping Protects Southwest Harbor, ME Basement From Water
Challenge
A homeowner in Southwest Harbor, ME had been living with a damp basement for some time. Tired of these conditions, the homeowner needed a way to stop water from leaking in directly through their concrete foundation. Unsure how to achieve this on their own, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the job done.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home they went straight to the basement to begin work. To start, a shallow trench was dug into the perimeter of the concrete floor. WaterGuard piping was laid within this trench, where it was buried beneath the floor with a fresh layer of concrete. Within the floor the WaterGuard will capture any water leaking in in the future, guiding it to the sump for removal. Within the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump to handle the water-removal. The SuperSump can move over 2,600 gallons of water every hour out of the home.
The water being pumped out by the SuperSump follows a PVC discharge line out and away from the home. Our crew made to final additions to this line before we were done with the installations for this home. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment added just as the discharge line exits the home. This pipe section has special holes built into itself which allow any water blocked by ice or debris within the pipe to escape. This prevents an overflow in the sump if a blockage occurs. The water then exits through a LawnScape discharge point on the end of the line. Here it drains into the ground harmlessly, never to bother this homeowner again.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner will no longer need to live with damp conditions beneath their home. The WaterGuard & SuperSump combination will ensure water never even reaches the surface of this basement floor again.
