WaterGuard Piping Protects Deer Isle, ME Basement From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner in Deer Isle, ME had been living with damp conditions in their basement for quite some time. Unable to put up with the dampness any longer, the homeowner thought it was time to do something about it. But with water leaking in through their concrete foundation, they didn’t know where to begin. To have the basement waterproofed properly, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement right away. To begin, a shallow trench was dug into the perimeter of the floor. We then laid 134 feet of WaterGuard piping down within the trench, burying it beneath a fresh layer of concrete. The WaterGuard will work within the floor to capture any water leaking in through the tiny cracks and pores inside the concrete. The WaterGuard will take this trapped water and guide it to the sump where it will be removed from the home before ever reaching the surface of this basement floor.
Within the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This device takes the water handed to it by the WaterGuard and forces it out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can handle up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. After this was done, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This will take in the damp air within the basement, separating out the moisture. The collected water is passed to the sump for removal while the dried air is circulated back into the basement until all of the dampness is gone.
Outside the home, our crew made two final additions to the discharge line to help complete the project. The first of these additions was the IceGuard pipe segment added just where the discharge line leaves the home. This piece has special holes built into it which allow for trapped water to escape. This protects the sump from an overflow if the pipe becomes blocked by ice or debris. The water finally exits the end of the line through the LawnScape discharge port. Here the water drains away safely into the ground, never to bother this homeowner again.
With their complete basement system in place, this homeowner should never need to stress about any rainfall again. The WaterGuard piping system will prevent incoming moisture from ever reaching the surface of this basement floor in the future.
