WaterGuard Piping Protects Mount Desert, ME Basement From a Leaking Foundation
Challenge
A struggling homeowner in Mount Desert, ME had been having trouble with water in their basement. Even though this homeowner has a concrete foundation, water was still leaking in during any heavy rainfall. The water would seep in through the tiny natural crack and pores inside concrete. To prevent this from continuing in the future, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work right away on the basement. To remove the threat of water leaking in through the concrete floor itself, we dug a shallow trench into the perimeter of the basement floor. We then laid a WaterGuard piping system down within this trench surrounding the basement floor. Buried beneath a fresh layer of concrete, the WaterGuard will capture any moisture leaking into the basement, keeping it from ever reaching the surface of the floor to begin with.
The water trapped within the WaterGuard is guided to the sump in the basement floor. Here, our crew installed a TripleSafe sump pump to handle the water-removal. The TripleSafe has three pumps within it, the first of which handles the bulk of the water being passed to the sump. The second pump inside is a backup for the primary. This pump takes over if the primary can’t keep up with all of the water or if it fails completely. This keeps the basement safe from an overflow while the primary can be repaired. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This ensures the basement remains dry even when the home loses power.
The water is pumped out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This line carries the water away from the home before allowing it to exit onto the lawn through the LawnScape discharge port. Here the water will drain into the earth far from the basement. Before reaching the end of the line, the water flows through an IceGuard pipe segment closer to the home. This piece has special holes in the sides which only allow trapped water to escape. This protects the basement from an overflow if ice or other debris blocks the discharge line.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner will never again see a wet basement when heading down-stairs. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement dry for many years into the future!
