Cracked Basement Walls Sealed in Union, ME
Challenge
A homeowner in Union, ME began to notice water on their basement floor. Two cracks had opened up across two of the concrete walls surrounding the basement. This was allowing water to leak in and gather on the floor. To prevent future water damage from occurring within their basement, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home they began work on the first of the two cracks. Running the length of an open wall we were able to use a FlexiSpan seal. This process begins with the crack being brushed clear of debris by a coarse brush. An initial layer of sealant is then applied to the inside of the crack. Over the top of this layer we laid a foam matting. This mat gives the structure its flexibility. Finally, a second layer of sealant is applied over the foam, sealing the FlexiSpan in place. This structure will now hold out any leaking moisture, while conforming to any shifting in the shape of the crack.
The next crack was running along a wall behind several wooden support beams. To deal with this crack, we used a Polyurethane Injection. Again, the crack was brushed clear of debris. Next, a coating of sealant was applied over the top of the crack, with several plastic plugs placed every couple inches down the crack. Once dried in place, the plugs were sequentially opened and injected with Polyurethane. This injection fills the crack completely, drying in place. Once completed, this injection will lock out any outside moisture that might have crept in through this crack.
With their new seals in place this homeowner can now rest assured their basement is safe from water damage. The FlexiSpan & Polyurethane Injection will ensure these two cracks never leak again!
